In addition to the activities of some communities and already existing initiatives, the Research Data Alliance (http://rd-alliance.org) aims to facilitate the global research data sharing and exchange to help answer the big scientific and societal challenges. This international effort encourages increasing interest among people who wish to contribute to global research data initiatives. The RDA Europe project is the European plugin into global RDA activities and is thus supporting the second plenary that will be organized by RDA/US in Washington DC.

RDA Europe  announces a call for applications to cover participation costs to the second plenary meeting in Washington DC in September 2013 with an emphasis on active European-based members of active RDA groups such as chairs and early career “data practitioners” (Data Scientists, PhDs, PostDocs, etc.) that do not have sufficient own funding. Grants will be awarded for support of travelling and related costs, however, not for daily allowances. The maximum amount per person will be € 1.000. The grant recipients will be published on the RDA & RDA Europe web sites, with name, organisation and grant amount awarded and will be asked to provide a short summary report of their participation to the event within 2 weeks of the plenary meeting. Support will be paid against receipts.

The award procedure will be as follows:

1)      The RDA Europe Executive Board (EB) will review the applications and will include experts for advice on each application.

2)      In case of clearly argued cases an immediate support statement will be sent.

3)      In other cases the EB will announce the final decision on 16 August 2013.

Please submit your application, which will not be returned, to Herman Stehouwer (herman.stehouwer@mpi.nl)no later than Friday, 2. August 2013 at 5.00 pm CET. The award decisions will be made not later than 16. August 2013.
